Stand-out snowmobiling destination that moonlights as a fishing hot spot in warmer months, Eagle River is a stone's throw from a 500-mile trail system and a long chain of freshwater lakes.
This 1.2 mile self-guided, non-motorized nature trail, located along an esker near the Mondeaux Dam Lodge, helps to outline Aldo Leopold's conservation ethics and the legacy that he left mankind. As you follow along the trail, wooden engraved signs help to outline the history of his life and quotes from his essays in the book entitled "A Sand County Almanac." Leopold focused on the life cycles of trees and prairies in many of his writings which can also be experienced in person as you walk along this trail.
